Al Jazira complete deal for Getafe midfielder Barrada
Days after missing out on one Morrocan transfer target in Younes Belhanda, Al Jazira announce the signing of his international teammate Abdelaziz Barrada from Getafe.
Barrada arrives at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium less than a week after Belhanda spurned a move to Abu Dhabi in favour of Dynamo Kiev.
The 24-year-old made 32 appearances in La Liga last season, scoring four goals, as Getafe finished 10th. Barrada spent two years in Madrid following his move from Paris Saint-Germain B.
Premier League clubs Arsenal and Liverpool were reportedly interested in signing the 24-year-old but were unable to match Getafe’s asking price.
That left the Arabian Gulf League club battling it out with Rayyan for his signature and the 15-times capped midfielder chose the UAE over Qatar.
Jazira have yet to confirm exactly how much they have paid the Madrid outfit but reports in Spain have suggested it is close to €10million (Dh47.1m).
The statement read: “Dear audience, an official contract has been completed with the player Abdelaziz Barrada, all the details will be announced at a press conference in the coming days.”
Barrada becomes Jazira’s fourth summer signing, joining Fareed Ismail, Musallem Fayez and Yaqoub Al Hosani at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.
One player who will not be at the club next season though is winger Ahmed Dada, who has completed his protracted switch to neighbours Bani Yas.
The UAE international was initially intended to go to the Al Shamkha club as part of the deal that saw Ismail move the other way. Al Samawi had stalled on the deal but after Dada passed a medical, the move was completed.
The 25-year-old links up with former Jazira team-mate Mohammed Bargash at the Bani Yas Stadium and becomes the club’s fourth signing of the summer.
Meanwhile, Bani Yas also confirmed that incoming coach Jorge da Silva would arrive back in Abu Dhabi this Friday in order to plan the club’s pre-season activity.
