IPL release UAE fixture list for 20 matches of its first-leg

  • Star gazing: The UAE will welcome some of cricket's finest players when the IPL rolls into town.

    Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed stadium will host the first fixture of this year's IPL tournament between the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 16. 

    An extra four fixtures have been added to the schedule after 16 were initially announced to be played in the UAE after the tournament was moved due to elections in India. 

    A total of seven matches will be played in Abu Dhabi, with a further seven at Dubai's International Cricket stadium and six in Sharjah.

    The tournament's final match in its UAE tour will be held in Dubai and will feature the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

    The full schedule for the opening leg of IPL 7 was announced after a metting in Chennai earlier today involving the IPL Governing Council.

    In an official statement, IPL Honourary Secretary, Sanjay Patel, added that a further announcement regarding the latter stages of the tournament would be announced shortly.

    "Pursuant to the initiative taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, many State Governments have indicated that IPL matches can be conducted in their respective states," said Patel.

    "Based on the responses received so far, the BCCI believes that the Pepsi IPL 2014 can be conducted in India from the first week of May. The schedule for the remaining 40 matches will be announced in due course."
