Man City star admitted to Abu Dhabi hospital
Ivory Coast have suffered a scare ahead of their African Cup of Nations campaign with the news that Yaya Toure has been admitted to hospital in Abu Dhabi.
SuperSport reports that the Manchester City midfielder and reigning African Footballer of the Year is currently receiving treatment for a cough and fever at a clinic in the UAE capital.
Toure who flew into Abu Dhabi with his team-mates from Paris over the week sat out the Ivory Coast's first training session on Sunday, complaining of the ailment.
Skipper Didier Drogba also sat out the session with a "light headache", with his absence quickly played down by boss Sabri Lamouchi.
Toure's condition will be of a more pressing concern for the Ivory Coast coach not least because it has been deemed so severe that hospital treatment has been required, while the player is such a key member of his side.
The Elephants, beaten finalists 12 months, are due to play a friendly against Egypt on January 14 before flying out to their base in South Africa two days later ahead of the tournament kick off on January 19.
This is the second time in successive years the Ivory Coast have chosen to base themselves in Abu Dhabi to fine tune their preparations ahead of the African Cup of Nations having done so last year.
On that occasion, they beat Tunisia 2-0 in a friendly at Zayed Sports City before eventually going on to reach the final of the 28th edition of the tournament where they lost on penalties to Zambia.
