GOING OUT: Sign up quick for The Super Run Series
Registration closes on Friday for Race two of the Skins Super Run Series, held at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai.
Super Sports Events, the organizers of this Series, invite runners of all ages and abilities to test themselves over the 4km or 8km course on what they claim to be the most picturesque run course Dubai has to offer. Sponsored by Sport360°, the race will be held this Saturday, November 12.
Race day morning starts at 6am with registration and a warm-up, while 7am sees the start of the 8km Race where runners have 60 minutes to complete the course.
The 4km run then starts at 8am, with prize giving scheduled for 8.45am. Local athletes Chris Williams and Emma Phillips will look to retain their Skins Super Run titles, having triumphed in race one of the series last month.
Further races for January, March and May next year are also scheduled, with an overall winner then being decided. Age Group categories for the 8km race include male and female 18 years and under, 19 to 39 years, 40 to 49 years and 50 years and over.
Meanwhile, for the 4km there are age groups for eight and under, nine to 12 years, 13 to 18 years and 19 years over over. Cost of entry is Dh125 for an adult, and Dh75 for a junior under the age of 18.
As this run series forms part of the Oakley Super Series, all athletes entering will have a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to the Maldives through a lucky draw competition at the end of the series.
Warren Van Der Merwe, Managing Director of Super Sports Dubai, revealed that the first race had attracted a large number of competitors, and he expected the same this time around.
“We had over 250 people racing in October, the course goes from Jumeirah Beach Hotel to Wild Wadi, to Burj Al Arab and the Madinat, and down to Al Qasr, and back around again," he said. “Competitors race for two laps, and they have a hour to complete the course.
“We have three more races next year, all following the same course, and form part of a series of five races.
“Anybody who competes in three or more races accumulates ranking points, and at the end of the season, the top-ranked from Skins Super Run Series and the other events in the Oakley Super Series go into a draw at the end to win a trip to the Maldives.
“A small number of registrations will be accepted on the mornings but we encourage anybody who wants to compete to get signed up before Friday at noon.”
The Oakley Super Series that Van Der Merwe is referring to also features a triathlon series, the Mena Mile Open Water Swim, an aquathon series and several other events.
