Bayern Munich beat Manchester United to Xherdan Shaqiri signature?
Bayern Munich look to have won the race to sign highly-rated young Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri from FC Basel.
Shaqiri, 20, is regarded as one of the brighest talents in European football and has caught the eye this season with a number of impressive displays, not least against Manchester United in their Champions League double header.
The stocky diminutive ace was so impressive that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently dispatched the club's chief scout, his brother Martin, to run the rule over Shaqiri as he weights up much needed midfield reinforcements in the summer.
Italian giants Juventus have also been heavily linked with Shaqiri, who has already earned 17 caps for his country, scoring a hat-trick in a Euroe 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria back in September.
Both the two clubs looked to have missed out on his signature as according to respected German newspaper Bild, Bayern have already agreed a €12million deal with Basel, their last 16 opponents in the Champions League later this month, to sign Shaqiri.
The winger, who has made over 100 appearances for Basel despite his tender age, is expected to put pen to paper on a long term deal at the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.
